It’s designed to keep you informed, inspired, and equipped to grow, lead, and win—one level at a time.

From the Desk of Gillian Levi
As CEO of Odigo Learning, I’ve seen how quickly the construction industry is evolving—not just in how we build, but in how we run our businesses.
This month’s focus is about embracing that evolution and seeing AI as a tool for business growth, not a replacement for human expertise.
The mindset shift is simple but powerful: AI doesn’t take away from your experience—it amplifies it. When used strategically, AI can help contractors like you save time, improve accuracy, and communicate more effectively with clients and teams.
Whether you use it to generate proposals, draft marketing messages, or analyze bid specs, AI is an ally that helps you lead smarter and grow faster. Remember, leadership isn’t just about what you build—it’s about how you innovate.

Highlights from Odigo Learning: Quick Start Guide to Using AI
In October’s Cookies with Contractors session, we broke down how small contractors can use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to save time, work smarter, and compete more effectively.
- Start with what you already do. Use AI to simplify repetitive tasks—emails, proposals, scope summaries, safety reports, and marketing copy.
- Prompt with purpose. The quality of your results depends on the quality of your question. Be clear, specific, and give AI context—just like you would to an assistant.
- Use free tools first. Tools like ChatGPT, Grammarly, and Google’s AI features can help you get started before investing in paid software.
- Protect your data. Never upload confidential project documents or client details into public AI platforms.
- Make it yours. AI should assist you, not speak for you. Always review and personalize the final content before using it.
TRY THIS PROMPT:
“Write a professional email to a general contractor introducing my company [Your Company Name]. Mention that we specialize in [your trade], have completed [type of project], and would like to be considered for upcoming bids.”

Contractor Q&A
QUESTION:
“Can AI help me with generating estimates for my jobs or bids? If so, how?”
ANSWER:
Yes—but AI should be viewed as a support tool, not a replacement for your professional judgment or estimating software. It can speed up the process, improve accuracy, and help you organize your data more efficiently.
-
Use AI to structure your estimating process.
-
Summarize scope and specs quickly.
-
Compare historical data.
-
Generate draft narratives for proposals.
-
Integrate with estimating tools (carefully).
IMPORTANT TIP:
AI can help you move faster, but you still need to verify every number. Always double-check material costs, production rates, and labor hours with your trusted sources before submitting a bid.
